Programmable Data
Irys is the first blockchain where data isn’t just stored—it’s programmable. Users can write logic directly onto data, allowing smart contracts and AI agents to interact with it natively onchain.
Data first enters the Submit Ledger for validation before being promoted to the Publish Ledger for long-term, verifiable storage. Additional term-based ledgers will allow for custom storage durations.
Multi-Ledger System
By combining low-cost storage with an upgraded EVM execution layer, Irys enables smart contracts to read, modify, and enforce rules on data. Ownership, licensing, and new kinds of AI-driven automation can now happen without external databases or oracles.

Irys VM
The IrysVM is a high-performance, EVM-compatible execution layer designed to work natively with onchain data. It allows direct interaction between data storage and computation in a single system.
Smart contracts deployed on IrysVM have the ability to enforce rules on stored programmable data. This means AI models, inference proofs, and programmable datasets can all be managed directly onchain.
Hybrid Consensus Model
Irys secures its network through a hybrid consensus model that combines useful Proof of Work and Staking. This approach ensures strong security, verifiable storage, and decentralization without compromising scalability.
Miners must stake resources to activate a mining address, preventing spam and ensuring commitment. PoW secures the network, while an economic incentive model keeps storage honest. By limiting how much power any single miner can control, Irys prevents centralization and ensures long-term reliability.
